Third-grade has an opinion unit where we write pieces about how we can change the world. Letters get sent out to different organizations that fit the topics each student chooses. Sometimes we get responses back and other times not. This year, a student sent a letter to the Wildland Firefighter Foundations. We received a package from the Wildland Firefighter Foundations with many goodies for the kids, including a special package for Max since it was his letter. Then the Wildland Firefighter Foundations posted his letter on a special Facebook page where it was noticed by Taylor, a past Erin Alum. He put us in touch with Marc and a new firefighter who then presented to our 3rd grade students. Our students learned that writing truly can make a difference.
