Mrs. Gleisner
I have been teaching here at Erin since 2004. I taught for two years in 4 year old kindergarten and then moved to 5 year old kindergarten. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood from St. Norbert College in May 2003. I am licensed to teach Pre-K through Grade 6 with a DPI license of #086. I graduated in May 2010 from Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin with my Master’s Degree in Teaching and Learning.
I chose to go into teaching because I wanted to make a difference in the world. I love teaching as every day I am able to foster a love of learning in the children I teach. I want to engage my students so they feel empowered to learn and be creative in the process. I believe all children can learn and I realize that all children learn differently and at different paces. I make every effort to help each child reach their full potential. I love how energetic and inquisitive my students are, they make me laugh and smile every day. I am thankful that we have parents and community members who really care about the children at Erin and their education. Their dedication and commitment to Erin School is so great and helps make it a wonderful place to be. I also love the professional development opportunities I have with my colleagues. I value and respect their opinions and appreciate their honesty and ability to listen. I am a better teacher every day because of the conversations and interactions we have as a staff. I have a great passion for learning new things and keeping up with technology. Being a teacher is a great way to do both. What a wonderful job I have!
5K Grades
Students are graded on individual progress and effort. A portfolio conference, which include students' work samples is held during the first term. Report cards are sent home every term.
There is no formal homework, but parents are encouraged to review skills that have been covered in class. Weekly newsletters keep parents informed about current skill and goal expectations. Reading with your child should be part of your nightly routine.
5K Content
In 5 year old kindergarten, it is understood and acknowledged that all children are not the same and learn information at different times in their lives. Although we have expectations, as a team of professional educators, we assist all students no matter where they are in their learning level and raise them to their highest ability. We place a high priority on reading and writing readiness with a focus on phonemic awareness and comprehension skills. In our math curriculum we strive to help students have a greater understanding of the value of numbers and mathematical concepts beyond number identification and counting. Kindergarten is also a time to develop social skills. We teach students the value of respect, community, responsibility and working together with others.
5 Year Old Kindergarten Discipline Policy
Students receive 2 verbal warnings to remind them to make a better choice and correct their behavior. If the misbehavior continues, it will result in the loss of classroom privileges such as free play. Parents are contacted if misbehavior becomes consistent.
*The Erin PTC raised enough money to install a projector and smartboard in my 5K classroom. I am so grateful to have such a wonderful PTC and the opportunity to enhance the children's learning through the use of hands-on technology.
